Canada won its first medal of the Invictus Games on Sunday when Michael Clarke nabbed bronze in the men’s IT5 100-metre wheelchair race. He quickly followed that up with silver in the 200-metre and gold in the 400-metre IT5 events.
Michael was back on the track on Monday, coming in second in the men’s IT5 1500-metre event at York Lions Stadium. That makes him four for four so far at these Games.
The retired corporal served six years with the Canadian military prior to a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed. The Toronto native could not pass up the opportunity to compete in his hometown.
Torontonians may have witnessed Michael training in his custom wheelchair along the lakeshore. He is competing in both athletics and cycling for Team Canada at these Games.
